 JUNE 2008

It’s June and my garden is still making up for the winter.  Part of the reason it’s so beautiful is that we seem to have moved.  We seem to be living in the Pacific Midwest now.  It’s raining as I type and it has rained 2 or 3 times every week for the last couple of months.  Living on top of a hill has it’s advantages.  At least we don’t have to worry about flooding.  But again this month it is so beautiful here that it’s really hard for me to go to the loft or sit at the computer and work.  I thought you might like to see a picture of the iris and poppies.  They were just starting to bloom when I wrote my last Notes and they’re gone now but for a couple of weeks they were simply awesome.  I even liked it when the strong winds blew down a few of the iris because that gave me an excuse to cut them and bring them into the house for my kitchen window.
Speaking of flowers, June is the last of the flower blocks for the Mystery Quilt.  See the Home Page and the Mystery Quilt Page for a drawing of the blocks, border and sashing.  In July we move to the “house” part of House and Garden.  There will also be a few more “garden” things but all of that is part of the “Mystery”.
One of the really fun things we’ve been working on is this year’s Girl Gang Quilt – “Favorite Things”.  I really, really like it – back to a little more “folk art” style of quilt.  The patterns are shipping to your local quilt shop this month (if they’re a “Gang” shop) so they can have things ready to start classes this fall.  If you want to join in on the fun and don’t have know of a “Gang” shop near you, email Barbara at jpquilts@cameron.net or call her (816-632-7632) and she may be able to direct you to one in your area.  And if there aren’t any then we can help you find one that does mailorder OR get a few friends together and start one yourself in your home.
And if you haven’t signed up to be on our email list (signup is on the Home Page), I would really recommend that you do.  We do a lot of email specials that you can’t find out about any other way.  For instance we’re doing an “Oh, my Gosh, we survived Friday the 13th!” special.  You get 13% off of everything in stock (except Jake’s Eagles and Moon Garden Stars) – even the few Zoie’s Baskets we have left -  for the week following the 13th.  It’s about the only way to get a discount on the kits and not be a club member)  And usually how you know about the specials is to get one of our emails.
I did find time in May to sit and stitch Jake’s Eagles.  Jake loves patriotic stuff (his father is in the Air Force) and like his grandfather, Jake is a real WWII buff.   Since Zoie has quilts named after her I decided to name this one after Jake.
It’s finally stopped raining so I’d better quit typing and go for my walk.  Then I shut up the chickens and come inside and sew.  Fun stuff!
Keep quilting ladies.
