March 2008 March is here huzzah-huzzah! The grandkids and I were out in the garden the other day doing the clean-up we usually do in November – raking up dead leaves, cleaning out the perennial beds and sweeping the walks. It’s still a little chilly, of course but nothing like it was. Cullen still needed a hat to cover his ears. He kept taking of his regular one and losing it so we put on an old one of Zoie’s that ties. Then he didn’t want to take it off when we got inside. My serious little grandson. We are really in the market for an abatement on winter. They said on the news the other morning that since somewhere in December we have had a new winter storm on the average of every 3 days. Just getting up the hill to the barn with the office and the loft has been a major accomplishment some days. Barbara’s husband bought her a 4 wheel drive vehicle right after she started working here. Nice man. And one day even UPS hesitated at getting here. They called to see if we had a pickup – which we did – so Barbara said yes, sorry, but we do have something for you to pick up. When I came down from the loft, we called St. Jos. UPS and had them get in touch with John and tell him to wait until the next day. He would have gotten here after dark and there is no way he could have negotiated the deep ruts in the dark. He would have positively gotten stuck and I was sure that no nice quilting person would want him to go through all of that so she wouldn’t have to wait 1 more day to get her kit. Boy, except for that 1 time though, rain, snow or shine, he’s here. Sometimes it’s 7:00 p.m. and we have to run up and let him in to get things (One of the advantages of a home based business) but he gets here. And we are trying to get most things out earlier in the month to make things easier. One of the exceptions to the “early in the month shipping” will be this month’s section of the Featured Fabric quilt for this year, “Zoie’s Baskets”. All of the fabric in the quilt is from our new line, “Hemming House” and this month we have to wait until it gets here from Moda. I really, really like this big quilt and I love this fabric line. I like all of them, of course, but this is a real spring favorite. I enjoy the softness of it. The fabric for all 4 sections will be coming in at the same time so the other 3 sections will be ready on time. We are taking preorders for it. So, if you want to get in on this year’s Featured Fabric (another year long quilt and I’ve been able to hold the price on this one ) let us know asap. I have placed my orders for the fabric but can increase them slightly now. And I can’t just order more fabric later if more of you want it. We all know Moda – when the fabric is gone – it’s gone! Another flower block for the 3rd block in the Mystery Quilt. See the Home Page and the Mystery Quilt Page for a drawing of the 3 blocks, border and sashing. We’re almost at our limit for this Block of the Month – have only a few left – but I think Barbara said we had room for a few more people. Make sure you check out all of our new patterns on the What’s New Page. And we’re making all sorts of special kits and goodies for Quilt Festival in Rosemont. Come see us – April 11-13th – booths 2231-33. Better get back to work. Keep quilting. Jan
